Promise, No. 8 :: 101 Views of The Sandias
Rainbows out here in the American Southwest are few but when they are present, they are usually on a grand scale. A bow can stretch several miles, from one end of the Sandia Mountains to the other. Most of the time, all you get are fragments.
Rainbows are a paradox, a trick of light. If you are in the right spot at the right time, light coming through a raindrop will appear to fracture into its respective wavelengths and you get to see the colorful result. The bow is ephemeral and rapidly fleeting. Painting the mountain is always a challenge. It took me almost a dozen times to capture this rainbow. I don't think I will ever attempt painting one again.
